Welcome to The Sportsman.
Sport is not just our passion; it is in our DNA.
First published as a newspaper in 1865 (The same year W.G Grace made his batting debut as a 16-year-old if you need some idea of how long ago that was), The Sportsman quickly established a reputation for not only housing some of the nation’s finest writers, but also for shaping one of today’s great sporting institutions: then Football Association secretary, Charles W Alcock, wrote for the paper and in 1871 he held a meeting at The Sportsman’s offices to create the world’s first national football tournament – the FA Cup was born!
Today, The Sportsman is a multi-platform digital publication and our passion for great sport content remains as strong now as it did 150 years ago.
Our mission is simple: go beyond the game and find the stories that matter, from passionate fans and sporting heroes to cutting edge style, fashion and technology.
In short, we are not here to report on a million headlines you’ve already read. We are here to arm you with all the information you need to ignite passionate conversations, before, during and long after the game.
