Arsenal 4-0 Brighton & Hove Albion

Arsenal got off to a flying start at home to Brighton & Hove Albion in front of a sold-out crowd at Meadow Park. Emma Kullberg's seventh-minute sending off seemed to write the story of this game when it had barely begun and Hope Powell's side never recovered. Kim Little opened the scoring on 28 minutes before Beth Mead teed up Stina Blackstenius. Mead turned from provider to goalscorer to complete the rout, netting a brace in the second half. The Gunners welcome Ajax next in the Champions League as they look to build on this stunning start.

Manchester United 4-0 Reading

Manchester United, like Arsenal on Friday, got off to the perfect start in the WSL as they thrashed Reading 4-0 in front of a record crowd at Leigh Sports Village. Debutant Maya Le Tissier scored twice while Katie Zelem, on her 100th appearance, assisted both as she scored from the spot herself. Euro 2022 hero Alessia Russo was the other scorer in what was great victory for Marc Skinner's side who are on the hunt for European football this term.

Aston Villa 4-3 Manchester City

Fans were treated to an absolute goal festival at Villa Park, as the home side walked out on the right side of a seven-goal thriller. Alisha Lehmann gave Villa the lead on 22 minutes before Rachel Daly doubled their lead ten minutes later. A Laura Coombs strike in added time gave City a foothold to take into the second half, changing the complexion of the half time team talks on both sides. The Cityzens came out like a force of nature with Khadija Shaw and Coombs scoring in the first ten minutes of the second half. But this match had another twist in the tale, as Kenza Dali and Rachel Shaw both netted to hand Villa a hard-fought win.

West Ham United 1-0 Everton

This game proved to be an inverse of the men's match between the same clubs taking place at the same time. While Everton's male side were beating West Ham 1-0 at Goodison Park, West Ham's women's side defeated the Toffees by the same scoreline at the Chigwell Construction Stadium. Former Arsenal and Bayern Munich star Lisa Evans decided this one with a 45th minute strike. Everton enjoyed the bulk of possession but could not make it count against Paul Konchesky's well-drilled team.

Leicester City 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur took all three points from the King Power Stadium in a fine display for Rehanne Skinner's side. Ashleigh Neville opened the scoring, having been teed up by Asmita Ale. Molly Bartrip set up the second for Drew Spence in first half injury time, and Spurs were cruising. They made things difficult for themselves when Spence then turned into her own net to give Leicester a lifeline, but held on for a deserved three points.

Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea

It was all about the penalties at Prenton Park as newly-promoted Liverpool stunned the reigning WSL champions Chelsea. Gilly Flaherty brought down Guro Reiten for the first, which was stuck away by Fran Kirby. A handball by Millie Bright meant it was Liverpool's time to go to the spot. Katie Stengel dispatched the penalty to even the score. With three minutes of normal time remaining, Kadeisha Buchanan fouled Stengel who dusted herself off to give Liverpool an unlikely lead with the game's third spot kick. A groan went round Prenton Park when seven minutes of added time was announced but the home side held on for a historic win.
