Tottenham Hotspur have been set a deadline by UEFA to make a call on whether their new stadium will be ready to stage Champions League games.
Last night, Spurs fought back for a famous draw against Barcelona at the Camp Nou - a result which secured their place in the last 16 of the competition. With Inter Milan held to a draw by PSV Eindhoven, it was enough for Mauricio Pochettino's team to progress thanks to a 1-1 result.
Speculation continues about when Spurs' impressive new stadium will be ready with some suggesting the club have already booked Wembley for the remainder of the season. Recent footage of the stadium has shown that while much of the scaffolding has been removed, work on the site is still behind schedule. The club is due to hold the first of its familiarisation events at the stadium soon and there will need to be security and safety checks carried out before it is deemed to fit to host a "full scale" event. Reports suggest Spurs are looking at holding their first game there in February.
But UEFA are now demanding a decision is taken by February because it will not allow Spurs to switch grounds during the knock-out stages. The European governing body gave Tottenham permission to play group games at Wembley while the new White Hart Lane was being completed.
UEFA issued a statement: “UEFA is in close contact with Tottenham Hotspur FC regarding this matter. A decision will be taken in due course and in any case before February 2019.”
