Twitter Reacts To Claudio Ranieri Sacking

Claudio Ranieri's sacking by Leicester City had social media in a buzz on Thursday night.

The Italian had been given a vote of confidence by the club's owners two weeks ago giving him their "unwavering support" and although losing 2-1 to Sevilla in the Champions League first leg tie on Wednesday night, there was a general feeling from the players that they'd turned a corner in the post match interviews.

However, just 24 hours later, Leicester City released a statement to say that they are parting company with Claudio, whom they thanked for his service to the club but who they felt they needed to replace in order to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.

Leicester sit 17th in the Premier League just a point ahead of the relegation zone and have lost their last five games in the league without scoring a goal in 2017. Last season's incredible run to win the Premier League included just three defeats. Leicester have had 14 losses this term, amassing just 0.8 points per game compared to 2.1 in 2015/16.

Last weekend's FA Cup 5th round defeat at League One Millwall appears to have been the straw that broke the camels back as far as the Leicester owners were concerned and defeat in Seville was the nail in the coffin.

As you can imagine, the news broke on twitter and there was little in the way of support for those running Leicester City.

Former Leicester player Gary Lineker was quick to condemn the sacking of Ranieri. Lineker donned a pair of pants on Match Of The Day at the beginning of the season following a bet he'd have if Leicester won the Premier League and it's fair to say that he was less than amused that Ranieri had been given the chop.
