Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino could well be lining up the Lilywhites' first purchase in almost a year come January, and what an exciting one it could be.
Tottenham are set to make an approach for Mexico’s World Cup star and riveting forward Hirving Lozano in the upcoming transfer window, according to The Mirror.
Despite the sense of balance and team unity in this current Spurs squad, a criticism constantly levelled at them is the lack of depth in squad, and devoid of a multitude of attacking options if Harry Kane is not on his A-game.
Conveniently, Lozano’s current club PSV Eindhoven are Spurs’ next opponents in Champions League Group B, and Lozano could directly reap more misery on Pochettino’s side who have so far failed to pick up a point. Back-to-back demoralising losses to Internazionale and Barcelona have raised more than a few eyebrows at both Pochettino and Spurs’ credentials to compete with the elite.
A Wembley welcome for PSV awaits at the beginning of November, where Spurs fans will be able to take a closer look at the man Mauricio apparently wants.
The 23-year old Lozano has made close to half a century of appearances for the Boeren and has scored goals in more than half of them, to register a ratio of 0.57.
Lozano, nicknamed 'Chucky' is already embedded in World Cup lore after his goal marked the difference between Mexico and Germany in their opening group game this summer in Russia, registering a historic win over the defending world champions.
Throughout the tournament, Lozano impressed would continue to impress with his work ethic and passion before Mexico bowed out to Brazil in the Last 16.
So far this season for PSV Eindhoven, with whom Lozano helped become the 2017/18 Eredivisie champions, the Mexican has banged in five goals in seven matches, and thrown in an assist for good measure.
Spurs would undoubtedly have to part with a pretty penny to bring him to North London.
In recent years, Davinson Sánchez, Christian Eriksen, and Jan Vertonghen have all moved straight from the Eredivisie, and all three have comfortably been part of the current Spurs spine.
Lozano however would become the first signing from PSV to make the move from Spurs since Yeong-pyo Lee in 2005.
