The Barcelona Starting XI For Next Season Will Be Frightening

The Barcelona Starting XI For Next Season Will Be Frightening
08:10, 24 Jan 2019

Barcelona have been busy during this January transfer window as they have started planning for the future by investing in some of the finest young talent from across Europe, with Ajax's Frenkie de Jong the latest to sign on the dotted line at the Camp Nou.

De Jong, along with French revelation Jean-Clair Todibo, will join Barca in the summer, and manager Ernesto Valverde will have an impressive array of talent to choose from next season. We take a look at how the La Liga giants could line up in Valverde's favoured 4-3-3 formation in 2019/20...

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen - GK
The undoubted number one for Valverde it seems as he continually keeps the world's best back-up keeper, Jesper Cillessen, out of the team.

Sergi Roberto - RB
One of their own. Sergi Roberto has made the right-back berth his since rising up the youth ranks.

Jordi Alba - LB
Jordi Alba may be a left-back but his ability to join in the attack from left-back is virtually unrivalled, with the Spaniard scoring two goals and laying on 11 assists in all competitions this season.

Jean-Clair Todibo, Gerard Pique or Clement Lenglet - CB
The rise of Jean-Clair Todibo, who can also play as a holding midfielder, has been remarkable and the French prospect will join Barca when his contract with Toulouse expires in the summer.

It seems unlikely that Todibo will walk straight into the team as the heart of the Barcelona defence is overflowing with quality. Good luck to Valverde as he tries to find room for Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet in his starting line-up.

Samuel Umtiti or Jeison Murillo - CB
The imposing centre-back has been plagued by a knee injury this season but the Cameroon-born Frenchman is a shoo-in when fit. His fitness issues are a worry though and it is interesting to note that Barcelona have signed Jeison Murillo on loan from Valencia until the end of the season, with the option of making the deal permanent.

Sergio Busquets - CM
He might not be to everyone's taste, but few do their job better than Sergio Busquets.

Arthur/Frenkie De Jong - CM
Frenkie De Jong will join from Ajax for a cool €75m next summer and the three-time Eredivisie winner will no doubt be rotated in a ridiculously talented midfield three. Arthur, the 22-year-old Brazilian, is also in the mix. The future looks very bright.

Arturo Vidal/Ivan Rakitic/Adrien Rabiot - CM
Adrien Rabiot has been linked with a move to Barcelona at the end of the season but a deal for the 23-year-old Paris St-Germain player is still yet to be completed, meaning the experienced Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic are fighting it out for a midfield berth.

Lionel Messi - FW
GOAT.

Ousmane Dembele - FW
Ousmane Dembele made an inauspicious start to life in Spain as critics grew tired of his questionable attitude and his stay with Barcelona looked like it might be a short one as he was linked with a move away from the Camp Nou. However, Dembele has knuckled down to become a first-team regular and the 21-year-old has been keeping Philippe Coutinho out of the team.

?? - FW
Luis Suarez isn't getting any younger and Barca made the surprise move to sign Kevin-Prince Boateng from Sassuolo for £8m as they looked to find a back-up to Suarez. It seems unlikely either will be a striker that Barca can pin their hopes on next season, meaning a new forward to lead the line will surely be the top priority in the summer transfer window.
