Mo Salah could do no wrong last season.
Every pass turned into an assist and every shot turned into a goal as the Egyptian King swept all before him during a remarkable first campaign at Anfield.
Accolade after accolade arrived at the feet of the former Roma star as he picked up the Golden Boot in stunning circumstances and led the Liverpool squad to a famous Champions League final against Real Madrid at the same time. The dream turned into a nightmare though as Salah was brought down and injured by Sergio Ramos in the first half of that match against Los Blancos and since then, things have gone from bad to worse.
Clearly unfit to star for his nation at the World Cup, Egypt limped out with a whimper in the group stages in Russia and the start of this season has continued in that vein for the 26-year-old forward.
A series of unconvincing displays have dogged Salah so far this term and that came to a head on Tuesday night as he enjoyed one of his toughest nights in a Liverpool shirt.
A home win on the night was the result the Egyptian would have wanted, but on a personal note it was a worrying display from the former Chelsea man as he struggled to look anywhere near his best. A disallowed goal was followed by a shocking mistake which led to the Mbappe equaliser for PSG and Jurgen Klopp was quick to haul off him off in the seconds after the error.
The stats surrounding his display against PSG are as bad as you might think with very little positive coming from the feet of Salah as the Champions League got underway.
Just two shots in the game was a miserly return for Salah but more worrying for Liverpool fans is that he completed just one successful dribble during the 85 minutes he was on the pitch. A pass success rate of just 70.6% will surprise very few given the amount of times the former Basel man lost possession, especially during the 2nd half.
There could now be doubt about Salah's starting place in the team with Daniel Sturridge impressing up front and Xherdan Shaqiri, who replaced him against Paris, chomping at the bit to get his first Premier League start in a Liverpool shirt.
Fans at Anfield will continue to support their star player and rightly so as he looks to re-find his best form, but the stats are worrying and are only being masked by the fact that the team are in such fine form. If results start to turn, the spotlight will certainly start to fall on the form of the Egyptian.
Add to that the attention he is getting for his reaction to Liverpool's winner on Tuesday night and it could be that we are about to find out just how good Mo Salah really is..
A mere blip, or a one season wonder?
