Rangers Sack Pedro Caixinha With Alex McLeish Among Early Favourites To Replace Him

Rangers have relieved manager Pedro Caixinha of his duties following a meeting of the board in Glasgow this afternoon.

The Gers conceded a late equaliser against Kilmarnock last night and ended the game with a disappointing 1-1 draw. This came just days after they were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup at the semi-final stage by Motherwell.

The Portuguese was in defiant move after the Kilmarnock game, insisting that he was intent on remaining at the helm at Rangers and righting their course. Following this afternoon’s news, it’s clear he won’t be afforded that opportunity.

His stint of 229 days at the club is the second shortest spell in charge of any of Ranger's previous managers.

At this early stage, Derek McInnes, whose eye-catching showings with Aberdeen last year saw him linked with the Sunderland job, is one of the front-runners for the post along with Billy Davies and Alex McLeish.
