Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has established something resembling a cult following through his frenetic social media activity in recent months.

Whilst former teammates have gone into punditry or sniffed around management in a post-playing career, Evra is a 21st Century boy and delights his viewers with some madcap videos as he seemingly bids to become the next Internet sensation.

He just loves this game.

However, his latest post has had more than a few people questioning the Frenchman’s sanity.

Evra is astonishingly seen salivating over and smothering a raw chicken in perplexing affection to apparently celebrate the approaching Thanksgiving holiday. Mixing up his poultry, it seems the traditional turkey dinner associated with the occasion went over his head.

Things get even more surreal when the former defender passionately spanks and then shoves the chicken into his gob and chows down on the raw bird, choosing to ignore the obvious salmonella risk.

Evra captioned the post ‘I know it’s tomorrow but for mister #ilovethisgame it’s #thanksgivingeveryday 😁🍗Soo #happythanksgivngeveryone ☺️👋 #positive4evra #crazy

With over 1.5million views at the time of writing and a flurry of baffled comments reacting to his actions, if Evra’s aim was to stupefy the Internet for the day, he’s almost certainly accomplished it.

Not content with confuddling the masses, Evra then followed up with a video denouncing vegans - who had obviously taken issue with his public declaration of love for chicken.

"Guys, enjoy your lives - stop being boring. And to all the vegan people, I don't say anything when you are eating all the grass in my garden!"

Leave it for the cows - they need to eat as well!"

Evra has been without a club since leaving West Ham United at the end of last season.
