Crystal Palace have completed the signing of German starlet Maximilian Meyer on a four-year-contract after the player completed his medical at the club this morning. Rumours were circulating that the 22-year-old could earn as much as £170k at Selhurst Park but this figure was grossly exaggerated by the Daily Mail and he will, in fact, earn around £80k per week according to the Guardian.
This is still a major signing for the Eagles who are looking to make a big impact on the Premier League this year. Meyer joins on a free transfer which allows Palace to pay these big wages as they haven't had to splash out on the transfer fee. Meyer has also received a healthy signing on bonus as part of the deal and will meet up with his new teammates this week.
The 5ft 8’ creative player has played for Schalke in the Bundesliga since he was 17. With 146 senior appearances under his belt, he certainly possesses a lot of experience for a young man of his age and this could make him an excellent signing for Crystal Palace.
Roy Hodgson won Palace fans over last season with his impressive management style and the way he went about taking them away from the drop zone. A nightmare start under Frank de Boer left the Eagles staring at a relegation battle, but the former England boss slowly pulled them away from danger and they finished in a comfortable 11th place.
A top half finish will now be the aim for this Palace side and the signing of Max Meyer could certainly drag them towards that target.
