Manchester United's Best And Worst Kits

With the release of Manchester United’s new away kit, we take a quick trip through history to and pick out the best and worst of the Red Devil’s kits. I’ll let you make up your own opinion on their new kit which has harked back to kits of the past.

Best Kits

1992-94 Third Kit (see main article picture)

This is a classic simply for its unusualness. Manchester United’s away/third kits are so often blue or white that this Newton Heath inspired kit is fairly refreshing. The black shorts and socks give this kit enough class to look fashionable. Players such as Eric Cantona did this number justice.

Vintage. This kit screams class and brings back memories of that thunderous Paul Scholes volley at Villa Park. Man United sealed the title in this season. See the glory of Scholes and this kit below.

2002-04 home kit

This is the first home kit of the list and as one I personally identify Manchester United with. The black trim on the shirt and the world class players who wore it make this one stick in the memory. Ruud van Nislterooy, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes all starred in this kit whilst a certain Cristano Ronaldo also made his Manchester United debut in this kit.

1997-99 away kit

Simply a brilliant football kit. The Sharp sponsor was iconic to Manchester United kits throughout the 90’s and featured wonderfully on this kit.

Worst

2012-2013 home kit

What the hell were they thinking when they designed this. That old red chequered tea towel you find at your nan’s house became their home shirt and what is worse – people around the world bought it! I suppose they do say that love is blind.

1994-96 third kit

The 90’s were the beginning of Fergie’s period of dominance of English football but this kit was a shocker. The uneven stripes on the shirt and shorts was enough to give you a migraine. They have not had a striped away kit since – for good reason.

1990-92 away

Oh. My. Word. I have no idea how you even go about creating something like this. Even the famous Sharp logo could not save this and if anything, makes it worse. If you stare at it too long it turns into an optical illusion. Spooky.

1995-96 away

This famous grey kit that they wore away at Southampton and then change to the third kit at half-time. The excuse that Fergie gave was that his players could not see each other but they probably just didn’t want to look up and see what they and their teammates were wearing. A true shocker.
