Jose Mourinho has been explained the logic behind his letting go of one of the most prolific goalscorers in world football for a pittance while he was at Chelsea.
The Manchester United manager brought Mo Salah to English football the first time round but let the Egyptian was never really given a crack of the whip and was moved on to Roma.
He would, of course, return to hit the ground running with Liverpool and will line up for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this afternoon when the two old rivals meet.
But why did the Portuguese let a player of his talent slip away. He’s given a few versions of this story, but here is the latest one.
"He was psychologically not adapted," Mourinho told the Manchester Evening News. "Coming direct from a small club in Switzerland to a big club in England, and in the Premier League it was too much.
"I remember I played him at White Hart Lane and at the Etihad and was too much for him. Now he plays everywhere, against any team. Can go to Barcelona, can go to Madrid, he plays like, 'I am Mo Salah and I am afraid of no one and nobody'.
"He's a fantastic player, completely different from the potential player we brought from Basel to Chelsea. Was a project of player and now he is one of the best players in the world. I know a project of player and now he is a top player."
Jose, still managing to bring up his own expertise while describing a stone-cold hash up, remarkable.
Just @MoSalah scoring from a ridiculous angle... 🙌🙌
