We are just weeks away from finding out the final 23 players that Gareth Southgate has selected to play for England at the World Cup this summer. Some names are guaranteed a place on the plane such as Spurs trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier whilst other players still have worked to do to secure the final few places up for grabs.
One of those players is Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold who shone again last night as Liverpool overcame Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals. The 19-year-old has broken through into the first team at Anfield this season and looked assured on and off the ball whenever Jurgen Klopp has put his faith in him.
Another strong performance at the Etihad last night lead to the BT Sport pundits lauding him in the studio after the game. Ex-Liverpool captain lead the plaudits but was joined by Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard in agreeing that Alexander-Arnold should be given a chance by Gareth Southgate if he continues to perform at this level.
The youngster has a decent chance of making it as Kyle Walker is now being used as a centre-back by the England manager and Kieran Trippier seems to be the only right-back ahead of him in the pecking order.
Liverpool are through to the Champions League semi-finals and Alexander-Arnold will need a few more big performances from now until the end of the season to guarantee his spot. He could even challenge for a starting place if he continues this upward trajectory.
You can see the BT Sports lot discuss his chances below.
@rioferdy5 "If you came to this game not knowing who they were, who looks the better right-back? Trent."
@trentaa98 is being tipped for a place in England's World Cup squad 🙌
