Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 34: A Nice Double Header For Man City & Liverpool

A promising double header awaits Manchester City and Liverpool in FPL this week

Another Fantasy Premier League gameweek is upon us and, just like the actual Premier League, title battles are drawing to a close and the final weeks are likely going to be filled with stress.

Don’t fear, The Sportsman is here to offer you avid FPL managers support ahead of the weekend. With a huge double gameweek on its way, here are our three tips to get the most out of your squad.

Man City’s double header comes at the perfect time

If the title race hadn’t already swung in the reigning champions’ favour before their 4-1 drubbing of Arsenal, it certainly is now. Pep Guardiola’s side cruised past the Gunners on Wednesday evening and the stars of the show were Kevin De Bruyne (£12.1m) and Erling Haaland (£12.3m). De Bruyne scored twice and registered an assist while Haaland set up both the Belgian’s goals, and scored one himself right at the death.

City are just two points behind Arsenal, currently have two games in hand on the league leaders, and in this double header they face a trip to Fulham before a home clash with West Ham United. Given the form they are in it is hard to see them coming away with anything less than six points and both De Bruyne and Haaland will be key to securing more vital points in this race for the title.

Liverpool have two favourable matches at Anfield

Liverpool have been on a bit of a renaissance of late, stemming from their comeback from two goals down to draw with Arsenal a few weeks ago. The Reds have since won three games on the bounce and they now have two promising home clashes against Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham coming up.

Many of Jurgen Klopp’s stars have been able to find their rhythm again and it has them looking like a side capable of staking a late claim for the top four.  Diogo Jota (£8.8m) has been bright since returning from injury, scoring four goals and providing one assist in his last three league appearances.

Trent Alexander-Arnold
Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) has found a new lease of life since his transition into midfield. The versatile star has registered five assists in his last four Premier League matches and looks to be enjoying himself out on the pitch again. Cody Gakpo (£7.7m) has scored two in his last three appearances while Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) has found the back of the net four times in his last five outings.

Liverpool’s clash with Tottenham is a gargantuan one in the race for the top four and given the recent trajectory of the two teams in recent weeks, form is with Klopp’s men.

Isak spearheading Newcastle’s Champions League push

There has been no slowing down from Newcastle United of late and their grip on the top four is strengthening. The Magpies recorded a stunning 6-1 victory over Tottenham last week in which they went 5-0 inside the opening 20 minutes and there were some stunning individual performances across the pitch.

One of the standouts was striker Alexander Isak (£6.8m) who netted past the frail Spurs twice in the first half, making it four goals in his last five league games. The Sweden international is in great form and is likely to add to his goal tally before the season is out to try and secure Newcastle’s top-four finish. With the Magpies hosting strugglers Southampton at St James’ Park this weekend, another profitable afternoon could be in store for the attacker.
