The 2022 Ballon d’Or and Feminin Ballon d’Or winners will be crowned this evening during a glamorous ceremony in Paris. Unlike previous years, the nominees put forward by France Football will be judged based on their performances during the 2021-22 season rather than the last calendar year
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is the favourite to receive this year’s men's honour as a result. By helping his side claim the La Liga title and a record-extending 14th Champions League trophy, the Frenchman is expected to win comfortably. The 34-year-old was involved in 56 goals in both competitions last term.

For the first time since 2005, Lionel Messi is not included in the shortlist and Benzema is looking to join his Los Blancos team-mate Luka Modric as the second player other than the Argentine and Cristiano Ronaldo to win the award since 2008.
As for the female accolade, England’s Euro 2022 heroes Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze and Millie Bright are all in contention, along with Women’s Super League stars Sam Kerr and Vivianne Miedema. Last year’s recipient Alexia Putellas and the 2018 inaugural winner Ada Hegerberg are also in the running.
