Boxing is often maligned for getting it wrong, but this Saturday it gets it right. Caleb Plant’s super middleweight showdown with David Benavidez is an all-too-rare example of superb matchmaking.
Unbeaten two-time WBC super middleweight champion Benavidez will put his interim version of the same strap on the line in the bout. Plant has a similarly regal record, boasting a reign as IBF kingpin. His only defeat arrived against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who stopped him in 11 rounds back in 2021.
It is a pick ‘em fight, well-pitched to deliver thrills and spills in the Nevada desert. The victor will be at the front of the queue to face undisputed king ‘Canelo’ or his challenger John Ryder, who clashes with the Mexican in May.
