Can The Black Cats Break Down Stubborn Leeds?

Can The Black Cats Break Down Stubborn Leeds?
16:26, 19 Aug 2017

Two unbeaten sides go head to head in the late kick-off on Saturday as recently relegated Sunderland take on Leeds at the Stadium of Light. Simon Grayson’s start to life in the north-east has been successful given the doubts that were lingering around the club before the season. His side have come through difficult tests against Derby, Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday without defeat and they will be looking to make serious progress now that the season is up and running.

Meanwhile, Leeds, now managed by Thomas Christiansen have been solid if unspectacular at the beginning of this campaign. They were part of a thrilling opening day clash against Bolton which they won 3-2 away, but two 0-0’s in a row at Elland Road have quashed the early excitement emanating from West Yorkshire. If they can repeat their opening day performance on their travels here they could shock Sunderland.

Stat Zone

Sunderland

  • No win in last 11 home league games (D5 L6).
  • Appointed Simon Grayson in June – he was in charge of Preston for over 4 years – league record: P198 W84 D67 L47. Won 1 promotion.
  • Signed Lewis Grabban on loan - 3 goals in 3 league apps this season.

 Leeds

  • 1 win in last 8 league games (D5 L2).
  • Appointed Thomas Christiansen – Record P4 W2 D2. League record: P3 W1 D2.
  • Chris Wood has scored 28 goals in his last 45 league apps.

H2H - Not met in league since 2006-07, Sunderland won last 2 league meetings without conceding.

Prediction: Leeds have looked incredibly tight defensively whereas Sunderland have been more expansive in the early stages. Both sides may take a draw and keep their unbeaten records. Three stalemates in a row for Leeds. Sunderland 0-0 Leeds
