10:52, 13 Feb 2017
Five-time Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins has been forced to quit Channel Four’s winter sports show The Jump after sustaining a “small leg fracture” during training.
The Tour de France winner had been training for a snow cross event when the incident happened. He had been keen to continue but has had to withdraw on medical advice.
He revealed the news on Twitter as can be seen below.
Gutted to be leaving The Jump. I wanted to give you an injury update...
1/2 Seen a specialist, I have a small leg fracture & need to rest for 3/6 weeks. Good news no surgery or cast required.
2/2 Huge thanks to the crew & good luck to all of the cast. Due to the way the show is filmed I'll still be on until show 4, so tune in 👍🏻
No horror smash, small training injury which means I can't compete. No terrible break, no cast, just need to rest it.
The show has a history of causing injuries with Beth Tweddle and Tine Hobley among seven participants in last year’s show who had been forced to quit.
Paralympian Kadeena Cox had her funding cut by UK Sport for the duration of the show due to the dangers of the show.
