We love a bold statement, think Muhamad Ali’s "I'm so mean, I make medicine sick," or Conor McGregor’s, "I fear no man. If you breathe oxygen, I do not fear you." Two of the best at hyperbole in the business, and able to back it up.
Here’s another, this time from the prestigious Rapha’s Cycling Club, the members only branch of one of the most famous cycling brands in the world, and renowned bike manufacturer, Canyon.
The two have teamed up for the second time and claim to have created - and we quote them - “the cycling equivalent of a supercar”. Take a second to drink that in my friend, because it’s not something we can simply let slide. The. Cycling. Equivalent. Of. A. Supercar. These guys are taking hyperbole to a higher level.
But like all the greats, can they back it up? To find out you’ve got to be quick, because only 250 of the RCC x Canyon Ultimate CF SL8 DISC (the catchy name guy had a day off!) will ever be made.
Weighing just 7.46kg, the same as a small Dachshund, this is a seriously light bit of kit and one that can hit some huge speeds. A stiff carbon fibre frame keeps the weight down and the speeds up on a bike that looks as good as it goes.
Both wheelsets are wrapped in Continental’s all-round Grand Prix 5000 25mm tyres, which have an improved Vectran Breaker layer for puncture protection. Other features include a Sram Force AXS Powermeter, and a short nosed Selle Italia SLR Boost Superflow S manganese saddle.
And it looks great too. Each bike features Rapha Cycling Club’s famous colours of grey, pink and black but not only that, each model will carry artwork created by Patrick Mafham, one of Rapha’s finest designers. Oh, and did we mention it has racing stripes?
Yes a bicycle with racing stripes, this is super car stuff on two wheels. Those stripes are joined by shining paintwork and a high-gloss finish thanks to the boys at Canyon.
To be part of this exclusive 250 owners club, you will have to part with £5,149, which is another bold statement...
