Arsene Wenger has ruled out the possibility of him ever being the Real Madrid manager.
The former Arsenal boss has been linked repeatedly with the job during his career and even as recently as last summer when Zinedine Zidane left his post, he was mentioned as a potential replacement.
The Real Madrid hierarchy never made a secret of their admiration for the Frenchman but he remained loyal to Arsenal. Wenger is reportedly close to deciding where he will manage yet and has four offers on the table. But he almost certainly won't be going to Real Madrid.
During an interview with beIN SPORTS this week, Wenger addressed the suggestions that he'd turned down Real Madrid during his career.
"I turned Madrid down more than once" replied Wenger. "Now it's over for me. But you ask any manager in the world, they would be interested in managing the biggest club in the world. Everyone would say it's the biggest club in the world."
He confirmed that he had been asked to join Real Madrid when Arsenal were moving from Highbury to the Emirates but wanted to see the project through.
Yes, it was in the middle of a project," he said. "We built the stadium, we had to pay it back, and I guaranteed that I would stay, and I'm quite happy with my decision."
Wenger left Arsenal at the end of last season and though his replacement Unai Emery enjoyed a good start to the season, recent performances have been inconsistent.
